Accredited Nursing Schools in Illinois

RNs: In order to become a registered nurse in Illinois, a nursing education from an accredited college or university is necessary. Students should seek out bachelor’s degrees in nursing or a health-related field or an associate’s degree in nursing. After graduation, potential nurses must apply for an RN license with the State of Illinois Division of Professional Regulation. They are required to have fingerprints taken and complete a criminal background check at an Illinois State Police department location and send that information in with the application. All RNs must then pass the NCLEX-RN exam. Once nurses pass the test, they can receive their license to work in the state upon acceptance of their application. The state of Illinois employs approximately 116,340 registered nurses. All nurses must complete continuing education and renew their licenses every two years.

LPNs: In order to become an licensed practical nurse Illinois, the first requirement is to complete an LPN nursing program. Most nursing programs for LPN education last one to two years. Students should seek out a program that has been approved by the State of Illinois Division of Professional Regulation. After receiving a degree, all LPNs must pass the NCLEX-PN exam in order to attain national certification. LPNs must also undergo fingerprinting and a background check at an Illinois State Police department location.
