Accredited Nursing Schools in New York
RNs: All registered nurses in the state of New York must have a license to practice. Those individuals interested in pursuing nursing careers in New York must be at least 18 years of age and successfully complete a nursing program from an accredited learning institution or nursing school. The minimal accepted forms of education in the state include at least a two year nursing degree or diploma. Students must also apply to and successfully complete the NCLEX-RN exam in order to be considered for licensure. Individuals must also complete coursework or training in the identification and reporting of child abuse offered by a New York state approved provider. There are approximately 165,730 registered nurses practicing in New York.
LPNs: There are approximately 45,130 licensed practical nurses practicing in New York. For those interested in pursuing a career as an LPN, all LNPs must be licensed by the state to practice in New York. They must be at least 17 years of age, be at least a high school graduate or the equivalent, and meet educational and examination requirements to become licensed. To meet education requirements, individuals must successfully complete a nine-month program in practical nursing that is approved by the state or a have a degree in a general nursing area. Individuals must also successfully complete the NCLEX-PN to apply for licensure.
