Accredited Nursing Schools in Pennsylvania

RNs: To become a registered nurse in Pennsylvania, students must first obtain a nursing education from a state-approved training program. Upon graduation from the nursing program, RN candidates must then register for the NCLEX-RN examination through the State of Pennsylvania Board of Nursing. Prospective RNs must pass the NCLEX-RN examination in order to apply for a license. Applicants who fail the NCLEX-RN exam can try again after a 91-day wait period. There are 129,810 registered nurses working in the state of Pennsylvania. To remain in good standing, licensed RNs must apply for renewal every two years.

LPNs: LPNs are nursing professionals who typically work under the direction of an RN or a physician. All prospective LPNs must first complete a nursing education at an accredited institution. The LPN program is usually shorter than the RN program, and can take anywhere from 9 months to 18 months to complete. After graduating from the program, prospective LPNs must then pass the NCLEX-PN examination before becoming eligible for licensure. They must also submit to a criminal background. Applicants who have been convicted of a drug-related criminal offense in the last 10 years are prohibited from becoming licensed practical nurses in the state of Pennsylvania.
