Accredited Nursing Schools in Tennessee

RNs: All registered nursing candidates in Tennessee must first obtain a nursing education from an accredited program. Upon graduation, prospective RNs must successfully complete the NCLEX licensure examination. Successful completion of the examination is the final step to obtaining an RN license in Tennessee. Continuing Education for re-licensure is not mandatory in Tennessee. Mandatory continuing competency is, however, required to maintain licensure in Tennessee. There are approximately 61,980 RNs working in Tennessee, with an average annual salary of $59,520.

LPNs: Prospective LPNs in Tennessee must first complete a nursing education at an accredited institution. These are typically only a year long and are available at many community colleges. Some high schools and hospitals may also offer LPN nursing programs. In addition to finishing a nursing program, all prospective LPNs must also pass the NCLEX-PN examination. Similar to RNs, all LPNs must satisfy continuing education requirements before they may renew their license. This renewal period typically occurs every two years, but the Board of Nursing will send all LPNs a notification of renewal 60 days prior to the license expiring in order to give all nurses plenty of time to complete their renewal paperwork. There are approximately 24,950 LPNs working in the state of Tennessee, with an average annual salary of $35,990.
